Why Join USTA

Why Join USTA

Be part of Uganda’s growing and influential seed industry

Membership
● Our members primarily comprise of registered seed companies operating within Uganda,
but we also accept companies from the rest of East Africa, with currently over 36
registered members.
Key achievements
● We have positioned ourselves and built a reputation as the standard certifier of
companies. For example, NAADs Uganda and the South Sudanese Ministry of
Agriculture, amongh others, do not accept bids from companies not registered with
USTA
● We successfully lobbied and advocated to parliament, and met with president to prevent
the passing of VAT on improved seeds, which would have raised the cost beyond the
affordability range of the local farmers
● We have created an opportunity for Ugandan Seed Companies to collaborate with their
counterparts across the East African region by opening our registration to East Africa at
large.
● Negiated with banks (+eg) to offer agriculture tailored loans for farmers,
● with payment periods that rhyme with harvest periods
● We have built Demonstration gardens around the countryWe partnered with DANIDA to
introduce tamper-proof quality marks. MAAIF was innitialy issuing manilar papers as
security marks to ascertain quality of seeds, which could be easily faked and thus
allowed a lot of counterfeit seeds in the market..
Partnerships
To achieve our goals, we have over the years and still continue
